Mobile app developers are finding more specialized uses for voice recognition that continue broaden the assistive technology's mainstream appeal.
A great example is Talkler -- a free iOS app for email management via voice command. Though designed for persons who are blind or visually impaired, hands-free email access also enables commuters to clear out their inbox on the way to work.
The app is easy to download and set up. It provides commands for reading, deleting, responding to, and managing email messages -- and even speaks command options, should you get stuck. Talkler is also compatible with VoiceOver, Apple's built-in screen reader.
Now, it's just another add-on whose origins in disability are all but forgotten.
